American Idol is a dream for so many, but tons of people never get to live out that goal. People across all domains come to show off their talents at the show. Katy Perry just made headlines for rejecting a TikTok star on the show.
A 20-year-old TikTok star Luke Taylor came to perform in front of the judges. All three of the judges were caught off guard by the surprisingly deep bass voice of the performer. The Pennsylvania native has 2.5 million followers on TikTok and is well known in the app for his deep voice.
Taylor did the voiceover introduction for his own audition in a classic narrator voice. Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan both said “yes” to Taylor but Katy Perry worried that his voice was a “gimmick.” She also mentioned that it would be “impractical” for him to join the competition with no versatility of style.
After Taylor performed “Ring of Fire,” Luke Bryan asked him to perform “Frosty the Snowman.” He even pulled up the lyrics from his phone to assist him while singing. Lionel Richie told Taylor he doesn’t think he’ll go all the way in the competition but wanted to throw him “in the soup” of Hollywood week.
Perry and the judges were definitely impressed by Luke’s amazing talents. Even Ryan Seacrest told him he could “make some dough” doing voiceover work. They ultimately came to the conclusion that given his surprising voice, it wasn’t a good fit for the show.
We can only hope for the best from Luke as he competes against the other contenders in Hollywood week. The show would really benefit from having a person with such a unique sonic ability.
