Avril Lavigne is regarded as a pivotal figure in the evolution of pop-punk music. Her hit singles “Complicated” and “Sk8er Boi” from her debut album “Let Go” earned her the title “Pop Punk Queen” from music publications. Avril recently revealed that her song “Complicated” is officially 20 years old.
The massive hit “Complicated” by pop star Avril Lavigne was released on March 11, 2002. Fortunately, this means that the math isn’t too difficult: the song is exactly 20 years old as of Friday. Lavigne announced the song’s anniversary in an Instagram post.
“Holy f**k! Complicated was released 20 years ago today. This song holds such a special place in my heart. It was my first single off my first album. The song that started it all for me. Fu*king neckties…black eyeliner…tank tops…fat sk8 shoes…D*ckies!!! This was the first music video I ever shot…My first time hearing myself on the radio…4-ever grateful to my co-writers Lauren Christy and The Matrix. They were the first team to really get me and understand my sound and vision. 4-ever thankful to LA Reid for discovering me and giving me my creative freedom. I could have never imagined the places this song would take me and the amazing fanbase it created. I am so grateful to you guys always and 4-ever for embracing my music and showing me so much love then, and still now, 20 years later.”
Fans couldn’t believe it had been that long, but it attested to the song’s enduring popularity.

She revealed what she was feeling when she wrote “Complicated” in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. “I was feeling what the song talks about – that there are tons of people in the world who are fake, who are two-faced,” she said.
Lavigne’s most recent album, 2022’s Love Sux, was released on February 25. Love Sux is her highest-rated album among Metacritic critics, and it debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 chart.
