Empire star Jussie Smollet was sentenced to 150 days in lock up for causing a panic over a fabricated hate crime. Some might say that his punishment was light, but he’s still not having a good time.
Jussie Smollett is going through a lot, and it’s affecting his mental health. He was forced to yell in court that he is not suicidal in order to prove his innocence. Jussie was recently placed in a jail psych ward, which enraged his brother Jocqui.
Smollett has been placed in the Cook County Jail’s psych ward, according to his brother, because official paperwork indicates that he is at risk of self-harm. On Saturday, Jocqui Smollett posted on Instagram saying, “So Jussie is currently in a psych ward at the Cook County Jail. What’s very concerning is that there was a note attached to his paperwork today saying that he’s at risk of self-harm.”
According to TMZ, Jocqui then called B.S. “I want to make it clear that he is in no way, shape, or form at risk of self-harm. He wants to let folks know that he is very stable, he is very strong, he is very healthy and ready to take on the challenge that has been put up against him.”
According to a law enforcement source, Jussie is in the psych ward because it is also where high-profile inmates are housed. The former “Empire” star is now serving a 5-month sentence for impersonating a racial and homophobic attack on Chicago’s streets.
When he was sentenced, Jussie repeatedly told the judge that he was not suicidal and that anything that happened to him behind bars was not self-harm. Jussie’s brother said, “This is not right. This is complete lack of justice. So please, make sure you all spreading facts. We really need our people to support us.”
Jussie’s supporters are rallying behind him, and perhaps he will be proven innocent soon. Either way, he’s in very protective custody while incarcerated. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
