Hip-hop fans are well aware that rap music as a genre has never been outwardly supportive of homosexuality or the LGBT community for that matter. One can take several verses from rap albums to make the point that artists have expressed their disapproval of gays in the past. That being said, Rick Ross is more than happy to welcome LGBTQ artists.
The rap scene has seen a rise of few homosexual artists for the past couple of years. For instance, Lil Nas X has become somewhat of a gay hip-hop icon in the industry. Although, he has previously opened up about not feeling as accepted or respected as he should, given his sexual orientation.
Despite that, Nas X sees himself as a pioneer who will lead to the presence of more gay rappers in the industry. Saucy Santana is another LGBT rapper who gained attention in the hip-hop scene in 2021 and early 2022.
Rick Ross recently sat down with Quentin Latham of FOX Soul for an interview and chimed in on the subject of LGBTQ rappers entering the rap game. In the interview, Rozay showed his support to Santana even though he was not aware of him.
“I’m not familiar with the name Santana. But live your life, chase your dreams and go hard man. Go hard.”
Rick was also asked about hip-hop music being supportive of gay artists, to which Ross replied, “I believe hip-hop has already embraced it, without a doubt.” Ross believes rap was accepting of the LGBTQ+ community, although Lil Nas X and fans would disagree.
