Elon Musk and Grimes’ breakup is becoming increasingly awkward. Grimes inadvertently revealed last week that the couple had a second child. She also confirmed her split from Musk and her new relationship with Chelsea Manning. Elon recently posted a transphobic meme on his Twitter account in response to the announcement of Grimes and Chelsea’s relationship.
Following reports that Elon Musk’s ex-partner Grimes has been dating Chelsea Manning, the billionaire responded in the same way that many other emotionally-stunted bigots do: by posting a transphobic meme on Twitter. Musk posted an image from the Sad Pablo Escobar meme template.
It depicts Escobar, played by Wagner Moura in the Netflix series Narcos, sitting on a bench, looking forlorn. The ungrammatical text reads: “Netflix waiting for the war to end to make a movie about a black Ukraine guy falls in love with a transgender Russian soldier.”
Musk made no direct reference to Manning, who is a trans woman, but this isn’t the first time he’s made disparaging remarks about the trans community. When he was dating Grimes, trans rights were one of the few issues they publicly disagreed on. In 2020, after tweeting that “pronouns suck,” his pop star partner called him out.
“I love you but please turn off ur phone or give me a [call]. I cannot support hate. Please stop this. I know this isn’t your heart.”
