“Romy and Michele’s” high school may be planning a reunion. During the red carpet premiere of “Better Nate Than Ever” in Hollywood, star Lisa Kudrow struck up a conversation with ET correspondent Matt Cohen about “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.”
“Tell Disney you want a sequel!” Kudrow told Cohen, who pressed the actress on the possibility of reprising the iconic roles. “Robin Schiff will figure it out. She’s got ideas brewing.”
In 2005, ABC Family aired “Romy and Michele: In the Beginning,” a made-for-TV prequel starring Katherine Heigl and Alexandra Breckenridge. However, Kudrow may be planning a sequel with co-star Mira Sorvino. “Yeah, I would. I think it would be really fun,” the “Friends” star told Cohen. “And then a little like, ‘What are they like at our age?’”
Last month, the two were pictured together presenting the Screen Actors Guild award for outstanding ensemble performance in a comedy series, dressed in bright pink and blue outfits in a nod to the 1990s cult film. And there’s never been a better moment for it than now, in an era when women are supposed to “get [their] f–king ass up and work” while looking fierce.
Romy and Michele, best friends since childhood, were the epitome of self-made women in the late 1990s, bucking the trend of settling down to create their own fashion brand and boutique in Los Angeles. However, in Lisa Kudrow’s current role on Disney+, she plays Aunt Heidi, a former Broadway actress who helps her teenage nephew Nate follow in her dramatic footsteps.
