Sir Mix-A-Lot scored a major novelty hit thirty years ago with “Baby Got Back.” The song, which is still popular in clubs to this day, was never meant to be taken too seriously. The rapper is now using the fame of the cheeky track to help with a very worthy cause.
Deadline reports that Sir Mix-A-Lot will partner with developer META-X Studios to launch a new collection of NFTs. Each one will be a hand drawn photo of a rear end. The project is being called “Bit Butts.”
This isn’t just another celebrity NFT money grab or pyramid scheme. Sir Mix-A-Lot was excited to do something good in the world through the digital collectibles. That’s why he partnered with the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, where a portion of the gross profits will be donated.
“When the team at META-X showed me what they were doing, it was a no-brainer for me. And as an artist entering this new medium of NFTs, the idea of designing my own branded butts was exciting. Add to it the benefit of raising funds for a great cause like colorectal cancer, and wow! I hope everyone enjoys grabbing onto some nice NFT booty while helping others at the same time.”
Bit Butts will be the first release for META-X Studios. CEO Joe Sichta said taking a fun song and applying it to a condition that can be embarrassing to talk about was the perfect launching point. They are hoping that in addition to raising funds, Bit Butts start a wider conversation about the dangers of colorectal cancer.
There will be 6,666 unique Bit Butts available. The NFTs are set to drop on March 28. No prices have been set. It is nice to see NFTs being used for an actual good cause. Kudos to Sir Mix-A-Lot!
