Francis Ngannou beat Stipe Miocic for the UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 260 earlier last year. After that, a lot of drama unfolded as he never had the chance to fight Jon Jones. Ngannou even thought the UFC didn’t want him to square off against Jon Jones.
In the main event of UFC 270, Francis Ngannou defended his UFC Heavyweight Championship against Ciryl Gane. Ngannou employed a new strategy to his game as he used a lot of grappling in his five-round fight against Gane. The fight ended in a unanimous decision win for Ngannou via scores of 48-47, 48-47 49-46 in the pay-per-view headliner. After his win, Dana White didn’t put the belt on Ngannou.
It was revealed that Ngannou was injured while competing in the fight and despite that, he still won. Ngannou recently underwent knee surgery in Los Angeles, California, to repair his torn MCL and for the reconstruction of the ACL as well.
The dominant UFC Champion took to his Instagram and uploaded a video, where he revealed his status after surgery. Ngannou said the surgery went well and there was no meniscus damage.
“Knee surgery went very well today (ACL reconstruction and MCL repare). PS: no meniscus damage. Thank you to Dr Alattrache and staff for taking great care of me. Rehab time to get everything back to normal and get back on track. Sincerely, THE KING”
Jon Jones also might get an interim heavyweight title shot if Francis Ngannou is out of action for a year. We’ll have to see when Ngannou will return to the Octagon.
