Tony Hawk, Birdman himself, is an American professional skateboarder, entrepreneur, and the owner of the skateboard company Birdhouse. A pioneer of modern vertical skateboarding, Hawk recently suffered a horrible injury where he broke his femur bone in half. It seems he is recovering fast from the terrible accident.
The 53-year-old professional skateboarder is walking again without crutches just over a week after breaking his femur in half. The athlete promised that despite the horrible injuries, he would be back on a skateboard, even if he wasn’t at full capability.
Tony successfully took a few unassisted steps in the right way in a new Instagram video paired to the rock music of Aerosmith’s Walk This Way. Hawk took a few steps across his tiled living room floor while standing barefoot and without a cast, brace, or crutches.
The pro-skater was dressed in grey shorts and a black sweatshirt, exposing his wounded leg, which did not appear bruised or swollen. Tony had shared his injury on social media nine days prior, publishing a gruesome snap of his leg X-ray.
Yesterday sucked. I broke my elbow 20 years ago and managed to make a full comeback; this recovery for a broken femur will be much harder because of its severity (and my age). But I’m up for the challenge.
I’ve said many times that I won’t stop skating until I am physically unable. A broken leg – with plenty of hardware – will probably be the biggest test of that creed. I’ll be back… maybe not at full capacity but I resigned to that notion years ago as I approached ‘mid-life.’
Hawk walked the red carpet for his HBO documentary at the 2022 SXSW Conference and Festival just a few days after the event. As he mingled with executive producers Mel Eslyn and Mark Duplass, as well as director Sam Jones, he displayed no signs of suffering from the break.
