DaBaby and NBA YoungBoy released their collaborative mixtape Better Than You on March 4, 2022. As DaBaby and NBA YoungBoy continue to promote their new collaborative album, the duo attempted to start a new viral TikTok dance in their video for “Bestie.”
The video, directed by DaBaby himself, shows two ladies entering the rapper’s home to party while YoungBoy FaceTimes in to join in on the fun. The video, which becomes increasingly chaotic as it progresses, is abruptly interrupted by a group of TikTokers who choreographed their own dance routines to the hit song. DaBaby sifted through the best entries in his “Bestie Challenge” and featured them in the rest of the video.
The “Bestie” dance challenge demonstrates that the duo has loftier goals for the project than simply relying on sales. The viral dance challenge is the latest way DaBaby and YoungBoy have proceeded to promote their collaborative project and it’s working in their favor.
DaBaby wrote alongside a clip from the Friday film starring Chris Tucker and Ice Cube.
“Y’all keep running up that mixtape, me & YB made in 2 days & got $2.5 million for that. got these n-ggas in a FRENZY. Relax. #BETTERTHANYOU OUT NOW. GO TWEET BOUT IT.”
Despite low sales projections, the album gradually crept up the Billboard charts in its first week, debuting at No. 10 with 28,500 equivalent album units achieved. Since then, DaBaby has continued to urge fans to support the project, claiming on March 7 that the album earned both him and YoungBoy a healthy paycheck regardless of the numbers.
