Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the presidential race more than five years ago. Clinton has alleged that Trump and company collaborated with Russia to help him secure the election. After all these years, Trump has finally taken legal action against the allegations.
Clinton first made the said allegations against Trump in 2016. Trump’s lawsuit addresses that and along with Clinton, he is also suing several others who undermined his campaign back then.
According to the court documents obtained by CNN, Clinton’s co-defendants include the Democratic National Committee, former FBI Director James Comey, and White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan. All of the aforementioned people are accused of fabricating a “false narrative” that linked Trump’s campaign to Russia.
The civil suit reads against Clinton and others reads as follows.
In the run-up to the 2016 Presidential Election, Hillary Clinton and her cohorts orchestrated an unthinkable plot — one that shocks the conscience and is an affront to this nation’s democracy,” the suit reads. “Acting in concert, the Defendants maliciously conspired to weave a false narrative that their Republican opponent, Donald J. Trump, was colluding with a hostile foreign sovereignty. The actions taken in furtherance of their scheme—falsifying evidence, deceiving law enforcement, and exploiting access to highly sensitive data sources—are so outrageous, subversive and incendiary that even the events of Watergate pale in comparison.
The Russian collusion claims cost Trump $24 million in legal fees, business opportunities, and other losses. The former president is reportedly seeking $72 million in damages, as per CNBC.
It appears the recent development of the Russia-Ukraine war has woke up a newfound interest in Donald Trump to take involve law over the allegations made against him to prevent further defamation.
