Seann William Scott, who starred as Steve Stiffler in American Pie, claimed that the film would never be filmed today. The first American Pie film was released in 1999. It was a box office triumph, grossing over $235 million and spawning three lucrative sequels – as well as a handful of poorly-received direct-to-video spin-offs.

The filthy comedy follows four adolescent lads who strike a deal to lose their virginity by prom night. The series’ most recent instalment, 2012’s American Reunion, also did well at the box office, grossing $235 million. Scott played Steve Stifler, commonly known as the Stifmeister, in the American Pie franchise.

Stifler is an antagonist in the first film but becomes a bit of a wild card in the sequels. Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Jennifer Coolidge, Shannon Elizabeth, Alyson Hannigan, and Eugene Levy star alongside Scott in American Pie.

Scott is also recognized for his parts in The Dukes of Hazzard, Cop Out, Movie 43, Role Models, and as the voice of Crash in the Ice Age films, in addition to the American Pie trilogy. Scott appeared in a recent interview with Jake’s Takes on YouTube to reminisce on American Pie.

He claimed that he doubts the film would be done today. He goes on to say that he doesn’t think there will ever be another appetite for those kinds of movies, and jokes that if some of the stuff in American Pie were tried now, people would be arrested.

You know, I was having a conversation with a friend the other day, I was like, ‘You could never make American Pie these days.’ Some of the stuff in that movie, you would get arrested and probably go to jail for a long time if you did it. I think a lot of the broader comedies, a lot of the stuff that gave me a career, I don’t see there ever being an appetite for those sort of movies again. I mean, I could be wrong. I think some of the broad comedies can be fun but people are, it feels like, myself included, appreciating more of a witty, smart humor and good writing as opposed to just something kind of over-the-top.

The American Pie films are aimed towards an older audience and contain a lot of eroticism, nudity, and foul language, with shock value being employed to get laughs. After all, Biggs’ character performs a sexual act on an apple pie in one of the film’s most iconic scenes.

Of course, not everything has aged well, much like many other films from the 1990s. Multiple groups of male characters spy on a woman while she gets undressed and masturbates in one extended sequence that would likely not be found in a popular movie today.
