Deshaun Watson has disputed the sexual misconduct claims he’s facing after being traded to the Cleveland Browns on a five-year deal. Watson has been sued by over 20 women for claimed sexual assault during massages, but a grand jury decided earlier this month that there wasn’t enough evidence to indict the 26-year-old quarterback.
However, he could face further charges in other states. He was asked about the charges again during a press conference recently, and he reiterated that he had never abused any women. He realizes the gravity of the sexual misconduct allegations levelled against him, but he never assaulted any woman.
I can’t speak on what people’s opinions are, because everyone has their own opinions, but what I can continue to do is tell the truth and that is that I’ve never assaulted or disrespected or harassed any women in my life. I was raised differently, that’s not in my DNA that’s not my culture, that’s not me and that’s not how I was raised.
GM Andrew Berry recognized that the move was tough and raised emotions in the community, but insisted that the organization did its homework before pursuing Watson. Berry claimed that the team hired independent investigators in Houston to come to a fair decision and that the team believes Watson is a good person.
Berry claimed the team was told not to contact the 22 women who have accused Watson of sexual misconduct because it could jeopardize the criminal case. Watson was traded to the Browns last week for three first-round picks, one third-round pick, and two fourth-round picks. Check out the interview below.
