Elon Musk is one of the revolutionary figures in the world. Almost all of his ventures, such as SpaceX, Tesla and The Boring Company, are about making a difference in their own right. Musk has been a champion for all things alternative, whether it comes to cars or currency. However, he could trigger another great replacement.
Musk is similar to Donald Trump in his opposition to social media platforms blocking free speech. The Tesla CEO just shared some interesting insights with his followers which might suggest Twitter needs to be replacement.
The billionaire took to Twitter and conducted a poll about whether Twitter as a platform allows free speech. He said that free speech is critical for the functioning of a democracy. He asked whether Twitter adhered to the principle of free speech.
Free speech is essential to a functioning democracy.
Do you believe Twitter rigorously adheres to this principle?
The poll ended up collecting some shocking, though not unexpected results. More than 70% participants suggest that Twitter does not allow for free speech. The poll had more than 2 million participants, so it reflects quite a lot of the majority’s sentiment.
Musk had more in his arsenal. Reacting to the poll results, he said that since “Twitter serves as the de facto public town square,” there needs to be a solution for the platform’s shortcomings. He then asked whether a new platform is needed. Musk’s concerns are fair, as Twitter is too chaotic a place for many while being too restrictive.
