Tom Brady decided that he was hanging up his cleats, and then he backed out of that retirement. Obviously, this brought a lot of attention from all over.
Peyton Manning, Hall of Famer NFL quarterback, decided to send Tom Brady a two-page note and a bottle of wine to congratulate him on his career when he announced his retirement in February. Brady, on the other hand, came out of retirement rather swiftly, announcing his return to the Buccaneers in mid-March.
Following Tom Brady’s revelation that he will return to the NFL this season, Peyton Manning says he wants the retirement presents he gave him returned. Manning said at an event held by The MINT Collective on Saturday.
“I want the letter back. You got to read all these nice things, I want it back. I want the bottle of wine back, too.”
Manning and Brady had a fierce rivalry throughout their careers, as it was frequently questioned whether one of them was the best quarterback of all time. Both athletes were selected to at least fourteen Pro Bowl rosters.
Manning tweeted a heartfelt statement following Brady’s retirement announcement, complimenting him on an “unbelievable” career.
“Congratulations to my friend Tom on an unbelievable football career. To do it as long as he did, at the highest levels is absolutely incredible. It was an honor and a privilege to compete against him on the field, and I truly appreciate his friendship off the field. I have always admired and respected his competitiveness, his dedication, his discipline, and his commitment to being the best. I wish him the best in his next chapter. Congratulations again, pal!’’
Manning’s comments caused the crowd to scream in laughter, knowing full well that Brady is unlikely to return the letter and wine to Manning. However, Brady recently revealed to foxsports.com the inner workings of how he and his team decided to convey the news that he wasn’t retiring after all.
