Will Smith delivered the slap heard around the world at this weekend’s Oscar ceremony. After becoming offended by a joke by Chris Rock, Smith stormed the stage and slapped the comedian in the face. Fans were shocked by Smith’s behavior, and it has been the hottest thing on the internet ever since.
It turns out Will Smith has a history of slapping in his past. TMZ dug up a video that showed him engaging in two separate incidents where the actor either slapped or play slapped another person. One of them took place with a young actor and the other was a legitimate incident with a foreign prankster.
The first slapping incident took place when Will Smith showed his “King Richard” costar Aunjanue Ellis how to deliver a movie slap. Video footage was obtained by TMZ. Of course, those slaps weren’t real, but Will’s post-slap posture looked very similar to when he slapped Chris Rock. This has been cited by one camp of viewers who believe the entire thing was staged.
The second example of Will Smith slapping somebody is much more real. During a press junket for Men in Black 3 in Moscow, prank artist Vitalii Sediuk tried to kiss Will on the lips. Smith responded in kind with a backhand slap. It looks like Big Willie Style has his own finishing move.
Chris Rock declined to press charges on Will Smith when questioned by police after the Oscars incident. That should be the end of the case legally. That doesn’t mean it won’t continue in the court of public opinion.
It appears cooler heads have prevailed in the situation. Fans are still refusing to let the surreal moment go. It could haunt Will Smith for the rest of his career.
