Will Smith is facing stiff consequences for using violence against Chris Rock on the stage of the Dolby Theatre. While The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has launched an investigation following the incident, Netflix has decided to take its own action against Smith.
Netflix has reportedly put a brake on the development of its upcoming action-thriller “Fast and Loose,” which stars Will Smith. The project has been moved to the streamer giant’s back burner in the wake of recent events.
As of right now, it is unclear whether Netflix will even return to developing “Fast and Loose” or if they are seeking a new star for the project. We will see what Netflix has planned for this very soon as several outlets have reached out to the streaming giant for comment regarding this subject.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Netflix was competing with Universal to be the next project for Leitch, but Universal pulled ahead. Netflix put out an urgent call for another director to take over a project featuring the star who was heavily favored to win the best actor at the Oscars. But soon after Smith attacked Chris Rock on the Oscars stage, Netflix quietly moved the project to the back burner.
Ahead of disciplinary action from the Academy, Will Smith resigned from the Academy’s membership on Friday. The disciplinary decision is expected to be concluded in a few weeks.
