BTS is the arguably the biggest boyband to ever grace the Earth. The South Korean boy band BTS has taken the West by a storm in last few years. Just in few years BTS rose to worldwide prominence and now they are making major moves by breaking established records in the music industry outside Asia.
The world’s most popular band will be taking a break from the stage for a year and a half to serve in South Korea’s army. The South Korean Ambassador to the United Kingdom made it plain that K-Pop band members, like everyone else, have a responsibility to safeguard their country.
There’s reason to be concerned these days. North Korea has gotten increasingly hostile, and Kim Jong-Un has become increasingly unstable. He recently fired a missile capable of carrying nuclear weapons once the country gets the technology.
Men between the ages of 18 and 28 must serve for at least 18 months in South Korea. Young Korean males are expected to serve their country and those BTS members are role models for many young-generation Koreans. The Ambassador gave no indication of when the group will be summoned to action.
It does call to mind the story of Elvis Presley, who enlisted in the military during the height of his fame in the 1950s. After serving, he was allowed to resume his career, albeit not at the same level as previously. BTS have made big waves all around the globe with their amazing music, charming personalities and humble behavior. It seems they will be hugely missed for the period of 18 months.
