Mel Gibson is frequently embroiled in numerous controversies. He is well-known for making derogatory remarks about people’s race or appearance. As everyone is weighing in on what Will Smith did at the Oscars, Gibson was asked for his thoughts, but it appears that his publicist is not ready to issue another public apology.
Mel Gibson’s publicist abruptly ended his interview with Fox’s Jesse Watters after the presenter inquired about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars. Smith resigned from the Academy on Friday after receiving criticism for slapping Rock onstage during the Oscars ceremony on March 27.
Gibson appeared on “Jesse Watters Primetime” on Saturday to discuss his new film “Father Stu,” but towards the end of the interview, Watters asked the “Braveheart” actor about his response to Smith’s slap. “You understand it probably better than a lot of people, with your career,” Watters said. “And I was wondering if you had been the one that jumped up out of his seat and slapped Chris Rock, if you would have been treated the same way, Mel?”
While the question was being asked, Gibson appeared to laugh and indicate to his publicist. The publicist’s voice could be heard as soon as Watters finished his sentence: “Hello Jesse, thank you — that’s our time.” Many have accused the Academy of being unjust in their reaction to Smith’s slap, despite the fact that other controversial celebrities, such as Gibson, are still members of the organisation.
A police report came out in July 2006 that revealed Gibson made anti-Semitic remarks while being arrested for driving under the influence. Gibson later apologized in a statement to the New York Times. Audio recordings of the “Braveheart” actor yelling racist slurs, including the N-word, at his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, were also published in 2010.
Mel Gibson’s publicist appears to be on hand to save him from yet another controversy. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
