Kanye West shocked the music world when he announced he will be dropping out of Coachella. The rap icon did not specify any reason on why he chose to drop out at the last moment. However, it appears the event organizers have already found a replacement.
TMZ reports that two acts are at the top of the list to take over Ye’s spot at the Coachella. Sources told the outlet The Weekend, who is coming off an insane year on the charts, a new album and an upcoming stadium tour may take the stage. There have been back-and-forths between both sides, which stalled at one point but there’s still a chance that he takes the stage in some capacity.
Sources also shared that organizers were testing the waters to see if The Weeknd would perform a few songs along with Swedish House Mafia. They were also interested in The Weeknd as a stand-alone act. As of now, no concrete decision has been made.
Additionally, The Red Hot Chili Peppers is another name that’s being seriously considered. The group is set to hit the road this summer and recently played a low-key show in L.A. Insiders told the outlet, there’s no major rock ‘n roll act on the lineup as of yet. So choosing RHCP for the spot makes a lot of sense.
Organizers also approached the dynamic duo of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak. The pair are coming off a big win at the Grammys, including Record of the Year for “Leave the Door Open.” However, Bruno Mars shot down the idea citing there wasn’t enough time for them to get a proper show together in time for Coachella. Stay tuned to Thirsty for future updates.
