Kanye West is already a multibillionaire, but his decision to skip Coachella left a huge sum of money on the table. According to TMZ, Ye signed an $8 million deal for a two-weekend Sunday headlining engagement. Coachella was also said to be handing out $500,000 in production expenditures.

Kanye and his management finally informed Coachella at the last minute that he was canceling his performance. It appeared that Kanye hadn’t been serious about performing on the Coachella stage for quite some time. According to Kanye insiders, Ye had not truly rehearsed for a performance that some artists plan for months.

Kanye had a staff in place that was actively communicating to Coachella producers, but there was still a lot of work to be done. Coachella’s producers were reportedly taken completely off guard, with no backup plan.
