Jack White and Olivia Jean had a very short engagement. The Detroit native was performing at the Masonic Temple in his hometown. During the sold-out show, Jack proposed during a rendition of The White Stripes’ “Hotel Yorba.” Jack’s mom and Olivia’s dad then witnessed an impromptu wedding shortly after Jean said yes.
The Detroit Daily News shared the story on Twitter. Olivia said yes without hesitation. The couple were then married in front of the audience and their families.
“BREAKING: Jack White just got married on stage at Detroit’s Masonic Temple, minutes after asking his girlfriend, Olivia Jean, to marry him during a rendition of Hotel Yorba. The quickie ceremony was attended by Jack’s mother, Olivia’s father and a sold-out, roaring Detroit crowd.”
Jack White had a busy day in his hometown. The songwriter was celebrating opening day for the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. The evening concluded with the impromptu wedding.
The couple first met when Jack invited Olivia to the Third Man Records studio back in 2009. White had received a demo of her recordings. White ended up signing Olivia’s band, The Black Belles, before Jean went on to a successful solo career.
The fans in attendance loved being a part of Jack White and Olivia Jean’s special moment. It was about as rock and roll as a wedding can get. Congratulations to the happy couple!
