Dwayne Haskins Jr. spent three seasons with the NFL, but he sadly passed away on Saturday when he was struck by a car. Now we have new details in this case. The Florida Highway Patrol have released new information about his death.

According to LarryBrownSports, the incident is still under investigation, and police will not release much additional information until investigators have concluded their work. After Haskins’ tragic death early Saturday, the football world is mourning the 24-year-old quarterback. More questions about his death remain unanswered, but they are unlikely to be answered anytime soon.

Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson Lt. Indiana Miranda confirmed that Haskins was pronounced dead at the scene. Haskins was walking on an expressway “for unknown reasons” when he attempted to cross westbound I-595. Haskins was killed on the spot after being hit by an oncoming dump truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway was closed for several hours as a result of the accident, and Miranda described it as “an open traffic homicide investigation.” Haskins was training with the Steelers’ quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers in South Florida.

“I am devastated and at a loss for words with the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said in a statement. “He quickly became part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community. Dwayne was a great teammate, but even more so a tremendous friend to so many. I am truly heartbroken. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Kalabrya, and his entire family during this difficult time.”

Rudolph simply tweeted, “Devastated,” in response to the news of Haskins’ death. T.J. Watt, a linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, remembered Haskins as an “upbeat guy.” Chase Claypool, a wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, shared an emotional tweet about spending time with Haskins this weekend.

“The world lost a great person today. When Dwayne first walked into the locker room I could tell he was an upbeat guy. He was always making people smile, never taking life for granted. His impact on me will last a forever.”

“I spent your final moments with you and I can’t help but think about how selfless you were in those moments. All you cared about was making sure that everyone around you was okay and I can’t thank you enough for that. You are what I strive to be. #LL3.”

Before their Saturday afternoon game against the Washington Capitals, the Pittsburgh Penguins held a moment of silence in memory of Haskins.

In 2021, he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he remained until his death during the following off-season. May his soul Rest In Peace. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
