LeBron James’ season ended as disappointingly as the team’s campaign did. The Los Angeles Lakers hoped to assemble a dream team that could waltz to another NBA championship. Instead, the team fell apart due to a lack of chemistry. The squad has essentially given up on the 2021-22 season.

LeBron sat out last night’s win over the Oklahoma City Thunder after spraining his ankle on March 27th. The Lakers were eliminated from any postseason possibility by April 1st. James will also miss the season finale against the Denver Nuggets as the Lakers hit the golf course shortly after.

The Lakers addressed LeBron’s injury in a statement. The team said the injury would sideline LeBron for the remaining two games. One of those has already been played, so tonight will be the last hurrah for the struggling team.

“LeBron James’ left ankle was recently evaluated by Lakers medical staff, and it was determined that due to the ankle sprain James suffered in a game on March 27th, he will miss the remainder of the 2021-22 NBA season to allow for continue healing and an expected full recovery.”

LeBron James played in 56 games this season for the Lakers. He averaged 30.1 points per game, the second highest average of his career. That wasn’t enough to get it done for L.A.

Injuries were a big part of the Lakers’ failure this season. Anthony Davis missed half the season with MCL and foot problems. LeBron sat out 26 games with various ailments. The team will now take the offseason to reorganize and try to make another run next year.
