Kim Kardashian is making a fresh start in more ways than one. On Tuesday, the reality star spoke with Amanda Hirsch, host of the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast, about a variety of topics, including why she rebranded her beauty brands.
Kardashian debuted her KKW Beauty and KKW Fragrance brands in 2017, as well as an anticipated skincare line that is yet to launch, but she shuttered them in 2021 and recently revealed that her fragrance and makeup lines will be rebranded.
While many assumed that the Skims founder sought to disassociate herself from the “W” in KKW, it turns out that the name change had nothing to do with Kanye West’s divorce.
“Everyone thinks like, ‘Oh my God, it’s just to get the ‘W’ off,’ What I really wanted to do was, I felt so bad that the customer had to go from KKW Beauty, then would go to KKW Skin, then would go to KKW Fragrance — that’s shipping costs at three different websites. And I felt so bad. And then Skims, you know what I mean? So I wanted one beauty brand.”
In fact, in July 2021, a source told Page Six Style that West was assisting with the revamp. “It’s like starting my own brand that makes me so happy.” the “Kardashians” actress said, adding that starting from scratch excites her. “It’s just like, I love the process of the whole thing of starting something new.” Kardashian’s KKW Fragrance Instagram account mirrored her thoughts in a statement on the relaunch earlier this month, writing:
“On May 1st at midnight, KKW Fragrance will be shutting down the website so that we can relaunch fragrance in the future under a brand new name — and under a new web store where you can purchase from all beauty categories under one site.”
Other details were also revealed during Kardashian’s podcast interview. Kardashian and West “went about eight months without even speaking to each other at the beginning of the divorce,” but she’s optimistic that things will work out.
