Gilbert Gottfried’s comedic persona included an exaggerated shrill voice and an emphasis on crude humor. Gibert tragically died at the age of 67, shocking the entire world. Gilbert was recently discovered to have supported Chris Rock following Will Smith’s slap in his most recent Instagram post.
Gilbert Gottfried used his final days to show his support for his friend Chris Rock. Gottfried addressed Will Smith hitting Rock during the 2022 Academy Awards in his final Instagram post before his death on Tuesday. On March 28, a day after the incident on live television, Gottfried posted a smiling portrait of himself with his fellow comedian.
“Which is the worst crime? Chris Rock being physically assaulted or Chris Rock telling a joke?”
Gottfried’s Instagram post at the end of last month was the last he would make before his death, which his friend and publicist Glenn Schwartz confirmed to People was the result of “Recurrent Ventricular Tachycardia due to Myotonic Dystrophy type II.” The news was first shared on Gottfried’s Instagram and Twitter, where his family posted a photo of the beloved star alongside a statement.
“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness. In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend, and father to his two young children.”
Gottfried was best known for his roles in comedies and as the bird Iago in Disney’s 1992 classic Aladdin. He was instantly recognizable for his over-the-top, exaggerated voice. Gottfried also collaborated with Rock on several projects, including two Eddie Murphy films, Beverly Hills Cop II in 1987 and Doctor Dolittle in 1998.
Gilbert was there for his friends until the very end. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
