Ed Jasper was a sixth-round pick of the Eagles in 1997 and spent two years in Philadelphia, six years in Atlanta, and one year in Oakland. Jasper, a defensive lineman in the NFL for nine years, has passed away at the age of 49.
In 2002, Jasper had one of his best seasons, starting all 16 games for a Falcons club that made the playoffs. Jasper got the Aggie Heart Award in 1996 during his undergraduate career at Texas A&M, which is given to the senior who goes above and beyond in practice and games.
As a defensive lineman, Jasper was noted for his aggressive play on the field and his pleasant, friendly demeanor off it. Jasper was a colossus, both physically and in terms of stature in the Troup area. Troup athletic director John Eastman paid tribute to the late star in a statement.
Ed was a tremendous asset to the Troup community. Ed and his brother Shane (president of the Troup ISD school board) have a tremendous compassion for the school and the community. It is a loss for our school and community. He will be missed.
