Master P’s first genuine success came with his 1994 album, and he has maintained his status in the industry to this day. Fans will be surprised to know that besides being in the music, and acting industry, Master P intends to spread his arms in the sports field as well. Master P recently stated that he wants to be the next coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Following a difficult season that saw Frank Vogel ousted from his role as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, Master P has stated that he wants a crack at the job. During an interview with TMZ released on Sunday, the iconic rapper stated why he deserves a chance.
“They need some alpha males over there. Can’t get nothing bigger than me. If you want to win, bring me in. At least give it a shot because this is Hollywood.”
“When you look at the Lakers, I know what Mr. Buss done, he thought outside the box. So, if Jeanie Buss wants to think outside the box, I’ll bring some hell of assistant coaches with me like Shaq, John Lucas. I don’t know if Shaq wants to do that, but if he do, we can take over.”
Master P’s involvement with the Lakers would not be his first in the NBA. The rapper was a member of the Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors’ training camps in 1999. After Stan Van Gundy’s firing in 2021, he has indicated an interest in coaching the New Orleans Pelicans.
Despite their championship ambitions, the Lakers concluded the 2021-22 season with a 33–49 record, missing out on the playoffs. However, now fans have to wait to see how the Lakers and their team member reacts to the want of Master P. For further updates stay tuned to Thirsty.
