Kyrie Irving had some frustrating moments during the Brooklyn Nets’ first-round playoff opener against the Boston Celtics. The home fans gave it to Kyrie in the form of constant vulgar insults. Kyrie returned the gesture in kind with multiple double middle fingers to the Boston fans. Despite his negative interactions with the Celtics faithful, he played an exceptional game.
Kyrie finished the losing effort with 39 points. Irving led the Nets on a frantic fourth-quarter comeback that nearly won the game. Instead, Brooklyn now faces a 1-0 deficit in the series.
LeBron James loved what he saw from Kyrie Irving last night. James took to Twitter to shout out Kyrie for his insane skill. King James also thought Irving should’ve been listed on the NBA’s top 75 player list.
“Young God-rie is so damn good at basketball man!!! INSANE SKILL!!”
Kyrie Irving has had a roller coaster of a season. His refusal to get vaccinated against COVID-19 meant that he was unable to play for a significant portion of the campaign. Eventually, the team worked out a plan to get him back into the lineup.
The Nets will need more of that kind of effort to get things going against the Celtics. When LeBron James is shouting out your game, you know you’re doing something right. Time will tell if he can keep it up in game 2.
