Thor: Love and Thunder is an upcoming American superhero film based on Marvel Comics’ Thor. Love and Thunder was officially announced in July 2019, with Hemsworth, Waititi, and Thompson, as well as Portman, who did not appear in Ragnarok, all attached to reprise their roles. Natalie Portman has been revealed as the new Thor in the latest trailer.
Natalie Portman returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after a long absence, and she’s more powerful than ever in the first teaser for “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
Taika Waititi, who directed the well-received “Thor: Ragnarok,” will direct the fourth installment in the “Thor” series. The film comes on the heels of “Avengers: Endgame,” which left Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth) stranded after the fall of his kingdom Asgard, leaving Earth in the hands of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
The film will begin with Thor as a member of the Guardians, and the actors who play them. Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper are set to reprise their roles. Previous MCU actors Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, and Waititi himself as the rock gladiator Korg will also return.
The plot of “Love and Thunder” is based on Jason Aaron’s critically acclaimed run on the comic book “The Mighty Thor,” in which Jane Foster (played by Portman in the films), Thor Odinson’s love interest, takes up the mantle of Thor after the sacred hammer Mjolnir deems him unworthy and strips him of his powers. Foster’s newfound power, however, comes at a high cost: every time she uses the hammer, her breast cancer worsens. Portman returns to the role of Jane after last appearing in an MCU film in “Thor: The Dark World” in 2013.
Portman reportedly left the series because she was dissatisfied with the film, specifically the replacement of original director Patty Jenkins with Alan Taylor. Waititi, on the other hand, is said to have directly persuaded Portman to return to the MCU for the project. Along with familiar faces, “Love and Thunder” will introduce new cast members to the franchise. Gorr the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale, is a more recent addition to the Marvel canon, having been created in 2013 by Aaron and Esad Ribic.
Russell Crowe and Melissa McCarthy’s husband Ben Falcone are also expected to make cameo appearances in the film. Jenny Morris and Simon Russell Beale have also been cast in the film in unspecified roles. Waititi co-wrote the screenplay with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum are producing the film. Produced by Marvel Studios. The film was shot in Sydney, Australia, last year after being postponed several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The film “Thor: Love and Thunder” will be released in theatres on July 8. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
