Thandiwe Newton has won several awards, including a Primetime Emmy Award and a British Academy Film Award, as well as two Golden Globe nominations. She was reportedly fired from the new Magic Mike film after getting into a fight with her co-star. She has denied the firing was for this reason, and in a new development it seems she is currently resisting rehab.
The actress’ representation rejected reports that she was fired due to a spat with co-star and producer Channing Tatum, but Salma Hayek has still taken over her part. Newton has been suffering from personal troubles following the collapse of her 24-year marriage to writer and director Ol Parker as Page Six first reported.
After her marriage fell apart, Thandiwe Newton became close to a young musician, according to reports. The attractive actress made news last week when she abruptly left the set of the forthcoming “Magic Mike” sequel in London due to personal concerns, and pals are asking her to seek treatment.
Newton has a close association with Los Angeles singer Elijah Dias, who goes by the stage name Lonr, according to multiple sources. Dias, a Milford, Massachusetts native, is only two years older than Ripley, Newton’s oldest daughter. “Save My Love,” a song he wrote with Amber Mark, featured in the trailer and on the soundtrack for Newton’s 2021 film “Reminiscence.” Lonr told The Post in a statement.
From the relatively short time I’ve been fortunate to spend with her, I know Thandiwe and Oliver care deeply about the welfare of their children. That’s all I care about right now.
Newton’s publicist did not respond to a request for comment. The actress’ crew was also concerned, according to the source. This concern grew after Newton commented on a friend Kristen McMenamy’s April 3rd Instagram photo, which featured the supermodel holding a gun to her face.
Newton and Parker, who directed “Mama Mia! Here We Go Again” in 2018, haven’t been seen together in public since March 2020. This is when they attended the Season 3 premiere of HBO’s “Westworld” in which Newton played robot brothel madam Maeve Millay. Since then, she’s attended the premieres of “Reminiscence” and “All the Old Knives,” both in 2022.
Thandiwe also fired her UK agent of three decades, Sally Long-Innes, at London-based agency Independent Talent Group. Gaby Morgerman, her US agent, is alleged to have flown to the United Kingdom to try to calm things down.
