Johnny Depp has sued Amber Heard for $50 million, alleging that she defamed him in an op-ed published by The Washington Post in 2018, in which she claimed to be a victim of domestic abuse. In the midst of Amber Heard’s continuing legal fight with Johnny Depp, Ireland Baldwin has dubbed her a “absolute disaster of a human being.”
Despite the fact that Heard did not specifically mention Depp in the piece, his lawyers have maintained that it was clear that she was referring to the actor. Heard has counter-sued for $100 million in nuisance, claiming that the op-ed was in the public interest, according to her counsel.
As the trial in Fairfax, Virginia proceeds, the court recently aired an audio clip in which Heard admitted to hitting Depp and said that she wasn’t sure of all the facts since she was “on an Ambien,” a sleeping pill used for short-term treatment of insomnia. In the hours after the broadcast of the day’s proceedings, a video clip showing Pirates of the Caribbean actor Depp appearing melancholy as the footage was played in court went viral on Twitter, racking up millions of views.
Ireland Baldwin, whose father is actor Alec Baldwin, shared a screenshot of the Twitter message on her Instagram Story recently, expressing support for Depp and offering her opinion on the topic. During their divorce proceedings in 2016, Heard accused Depp of domestic abuse. The couple, who married in 2015, had their marriage annulled in January 2017, months after Heard filed for divorce.
Despite Depp’s repeated denials during the three-week trial in London that he was ever aggressive to Heard, the supervisory judge determined that the charges made by the U.K. tabloid that he was abusive to Heard were basically true. Depp was requested to resign from Fantastic Beasts 3, in which he was due to reprise his role as Newt Scamander.
