Twitter has been criticized several times in the past for its suppression of free speech. However, with Elon Musk now becoming the new ruler of Twitter, he has promised to preserve free speech on the platform.
Twitter has been harsh on former US President Donald Trump. He was banned from the platform on January 6, 2021. This marked a major blow from the public corporation for freedom of expression. This has left wondering if Musk’s desire for expanding Twitter’s free speech would result in Trump’s return
Trump appeared on Fox News following Elon Musk closing the deal to purchase Twitter and make it a privately owned company. The former US President told the outlet that he does not plan to return on the plaform.
“I am not going on Twitter. I am going to stay on Truth,” Trump told Fox News.
“[Truth is] taking in millions of people, and what we’re finding is that the response on Truth is much better than being on Twitter,” Trump said. “Twitter has bots and fake accounts, and we are doing everything we can…The bottom line is, no, I am not going back to Twitter.”
Trump referred to his own social media platform, Truth. The app launched earlier this year and those who wanted less restrictive internet space, it is for them.
Trump also praised Musk and called him a “good man.” He firmly believes the Tesla CEO is going to make massive improvements to its platform. We will how that turn out.
