Charles Barkley recently had some negative things to say about Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant. The former NBA rebound king didn’t parse his words when he questioned Durant’s leadership. The Inside the NBA host went as far as to call KD a ring chaser.
Durant has never been shy about responding to his critics on social media. That’s exactly what he did after the Nets were easily dispatched in a first-round playoff series by the Boston Celtics. Kevin Durant was able to savage Sir Charles without saying a single word.
Kevin took to his Instagram story to make his response. He simply posted two photos of the Round Mound of Rebound. Both were during his time with the Houston Rockets, a team he joined to try and win an NBA championship.
Charles Barkley started his career in Philadelphia before moving on to the Phoenix Suns for four seasons. As his playing days were coming to a close, Charles took off to Houston to play alongside Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler.
The Rockets had previously beaten the Suns in the playoffs. Kevin Durant sees this as a clear sign of Barkley’s ring chasing. The strategy didn’t work, as the Rockets were swept in the first round in each of his final two years.
The NBA has become a league of ring chasers ever since Barkley retired from the hardwood. Even LeBron James left his native Cleveland in search of a title. The irony of this story isn’t lost on anyone, as we now have ring chasers criticizing ring chasers.
