WWE instituted their collegiate NIL program, “Next In Line,” with an eye on finding young, athletic talent and good looks that they can mold into superstars. Triple H has said that it is a perfect opportunity for those who aren’t able to continue their professional careers in other sports. WWE has been aggressively pursuing athletes across all sports to try and bring them into the program.
One of the stars of WWE’s early recruitment for NIL was Lexi Gordon. The Duke Blue Devils basketball star averaged 9 points per game during her senior year. WWE hoped to harness her athletic abilities into a future draw in pro wrestling.
Lexi has taken another route. Gordon will continue her basketball career in the WNBA. The Los Angeles Sparks added Lexi Gordon to their 2022 training camp roster. WWE’s recruitment team congratulated her on Twitter.
“Congratulations to #WWENIL Athlete @Lexi_g34 for signing with the @LASparks!!! #WWE”
Lexi Gordon still might have a future in wrestling. As an undrafted player, she will have to overcome a lot of odds to make it into the WNBA. If things don’t work out, WWE will be just a phone call away.
We will have to wait and see how things go for Lexi in Sparks training camp. If she doesn’t stick with the team and returns to WWE, it will be another athlete with legitimate pro experience on their roster. For now, Lexi Gordon is going to do her best to make a splash in pro hoops.
