According to Variety, the CW has canceled “Batwoman” after three seasons. Caroline Dries announced the news on Twitter. “Batwoman” premiered on The CW in 2019, though with a different lead actress.
“Just got the sad news that #Batwoman will not be seeing an S4. I am bummed, but full of gratitude. What an honor to make 51 episodes. So many inspiring, brilliant people contributed to this series. Thank you, producers, cast, and crew. Thank you, fans! We love you.”
Ruby Rose starred in the series at first but left after the first season. She later claimed that unsafe working conditions, as well as issues with co-star Dougray Scott, prompted her departure. Javicia Leslie was then introduced as a new character to assume the role of Batwoman. Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, Victoria Cartagena, Robin Givens, and Nick Creegan also appeared on the show.
Following the cancellation, The CW’s only remaining DC shows are “The Flash,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” and “Stargirl.” “The Flash” was renewed for a ninth season in March, and “Stargirl” will premiere its third season later this year. The future of “Legends of Tomorrow” on the network is still unknown. However, Fiveash, Stoteraux, and “Batwoman” writer Natalie Abrams are currently working on the network’s pilot “Gotham Knights.”
Questions about The CW’s future in scripted series have been swirling for a while, given that Nexstar is in talks to buy a majority stake in the network. Along with “The Flash,” the CW has renewed several other shows and has three pilots in the works, including “Gotham Knights.” To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
