The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue has been published every year since 1964. The famed annual magazine lives in the memories of many teenagers who grew up during the pre-internet era. SI is breaking all new ground with their latest edition.

Katrina Scott will be the first “visibly pregnant” woman to pose for the annual Swimsuit Issue. SI made the announcement earlier today. Katrina was the 2021 edition’s rookie of the year.

A fitness trainer, Katrina Scott talked about the importance of the milestone. She said that expectations of what women should look like have changed. Scott believes pregnancy is the embodiment of what it means to be a powerful woman.

“As women, we have been told, shown, and expected to hide (then ‘bounce back’ from) our pregnant bodies, when, in fact, our beautiful bumps embody the miracle of what it means to be Selfless, Vulnerable, and Strong.”

The 38-year-old model is currently expecting her second child. Katrina speaks candidly in the issue about her experience with in-vitro fertilization. She is hoping posing serves as a positive message to those struggling to get pregnant.

Sports Illustrated has shifted the focus of the swimsuit edition to one of inclusion. Last year’s issue included Leyna Bloom, a transgender model. Katrina Scott is hoping to provide a similar theme of body positivity with her spread.
