Dave Chappelle faced an intense and scary moment during his recent comedy set at the Hollywood Bowl. The “Half Baked” star was entertaining a huge crowd when a man ambushed him on stage. Several people quickly came to Dave’s aid and subdued the attacker.
Chris Rock came up to the stage in the aftermath, jokingly asking if it was Will Smith. TMZ reported this morning that the attacker has now been identified. 23-year-old Isaiah Lee is alleged to have been the one who attacked Dave Chappelle. He is currently being held on $30,000 bail.
It was reported after the attack that the perpetrator allegedly pulled out a gun. Law enforcement confirmed those rumors, but the gun was not real. The replica weapon also had a knife attached to it.
As Chappelle’s attacker started running towards him, a mob of people took him down. Onlookers noted that Dave’s protectors “beat the crap out of” the attacker. Several who were there said that Jamie Foxx and Busta Rhymes were among them.
Dave Chappelle was not injured in the incident. The attacker was transported to the hospital. There, he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.
There is no word on a motive for the attack. Chappelle went right back to his comedy routine as if nothing had happened. Hopefully, this was an isolated incident, as Dave has more upcoming dates on his “Netflix Is A Joke” tour.
