Dave Chappelle was bull-rushed while performing a recent comedy set at the Hollywood Bowl. The attacker was quickly subdued and Chappelle was unharmed. The scary incident led to the immediate arrest of Isaiah Lee, who had his first court appearance today.
Lee looked beat up and had his arm in a sling as he approached the courtroom. He entered a not guilty plea on all four misdemeanor charges against them. The attacker’s arm was broken when several people tackled and held him down after he rushed the stage with a fake gun with a knife attached.
The judge set Lee’s bail at $30,000. If he can come up with bail, he will be released under a protective order, according to TMZ. That means he will not be able to come within 100 yards of the Hollywood Bowl, Dave Chappelle, or any venue where the comedian has a show.
LA County District Attorney George Gascon opted to pass on felony charges for Isaiah Lee. The case was then handed from the county to the City of Los Angeles. Lee’s charges include possession of a weapon with intent to assault and unauthorized access.
The maximum time Isaiah Lee could face in jail for the attack is 18 months. His sentence is expected to be much less. The beating he took was probably punishment enough.
Time will tell what sort of defense Isaiah Lee plans to use. The entire incident was caught on video. His public defender might want to have a talk with him about reconsidering the not guilty plea.
