Dave Chappelle was recently performing as part of the “Netflix Is A Joke” comedy festival when he was tackled to the ground. The suspect was apprehended by security guards, and Jamie Foxx quickly took to the stage to help calm the crowd. The comedian is now refusing to let the wild incident in Los Angeles overshadow his record-breaking performance at the Hollywood Bowl.
Dave Chappelle does not want an onstage attack at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Tuesday to “overshadow the magic” of the event. His representative recently made a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
The performances by Dave Chappelle at the Hollywood Bowl were epic and record-breaking, and he refuses to allow… [the] incident to overshadow the magic of this historic moment. Dave Chappelle celebrated four nights of comedy and music, setting record-breaking sales for a comedian at the Hollywood Bowl. This run ties Chappelle with Monty Python for the most headlined shows by any comedian at the Hollywood Bowl, reaching 70,000 fans of diverse backgrounds during the first ‘Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival.’
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department reported that they had arrested a man named Isaiah Lee in connection with the attack. At the Hollywood Bowl, a replica handgun with a knife blade was discovered. Dave Chappelle’s security brutally beaten Lee. Four misdemeanor charges have been filed against the aspiring rapper.
According to the New York Post, the charges are as follows: battery, possession of a deadly weapon with intent to assault, unauthorized access to the stage area during a performance, and commission of an act that delays or interferes with the performer. Lee arrived in court yesterday (May 6th) dressed in a blue suicide gown. He is currently being held on a bond of $30,000.
