After Kim Kardashian turned heads at the Met Gala 2022 wearing an iconic dress from Marilyn Monroe’s wardrobe, she changed into another dress after the Met Gala, at her hotel.
The dress that Kim wore to the Met was the one that Marilyn wore while singing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to John F. Kennedy in 1962, and the dress that Kim wore after was the one that Marilyn Monroe wore while she received the Henrietta Award For World Film Favorite.
“To top off my night after The Met, I had the honor of changing into Marilyn Monroe’s Norman Norell dress that she wore to the Golden Globes in 1962 —where she received the Henrietta Award For World Film Favorite,” Kim captioned photos of herself wearing the glittering green garment.
“In my quest to find the Jean Louis hand beaded dress that I wore to the gala, I discovered @heritageauctions owned Marilyn’s iconic green sequined gown,” Kim added.
Coincidentally enough, Kim’s florist, Jeff Leatham happened to acquire Monroe’s Golden Globe award from that same night, which made it a perfect accessory for Kim.
“I saw this all as a sign of way that all of the stars aligned. It will forever be one of the greatest privileges of my life to be able to channel my inner Marilyn in this way, on such a special night,” Kim concluded her caption.
Even though the museum agreed to loan the dresses to Kardashian for the Met Gala, they prohibited her from making any alterations, of course, and because of this, Kim had to lose 16 pounds to fit into the outfits.
Kim also told Vogue before the gala, “I’m extremely respectful to the dress and what it means to American history. I would never want to sit in it or eat in it or have any risk of any damage to it and I won’t be wearing the kind of body makeup I usually do.”
Kim also revealed during the interview that she had a copy of Monroe’s Globes gown in her wardrobe. “I think I might just wear that one to eat pizza in my hotel room,” Kim joked. Clearly, she kept her word.
