UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman is a household name in the world of MMA right now. Fans and professionals alike consider him the pound-for-pound world’s best fighter for a good reason. Usman also wants a boxing match with Canelo Alvarez.
Usman made his debut in MMA back in 2012 against David Glover, with the fight taking place in the Resurrection Fighting Alliance 5. Usman would get a second-round TKO win in the fight.
For quite a long time now, fans have been wondering whether Kamaru Usman will ever square off against boxing sensation Canelo Alvarez. Usman even explained how a fight with Alvarez will be different from Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather.
While speaking to the media ahead of UFC 274, Kamaru Usman talked about a boxing match against Canelo Alvarez. Usman claimed that he will be the biggest fight purse in Alvarez’s career.
“You know at the end of the day… You know it is what it is, Canelo is the best pound-for-pound boxer. I am the best pound-for-pound mixed-martial-artist. I’m the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet. And so I was courageous enough to want to challenge myself in that way. And he’s not. And the only thing he can say is payday.
Let’s be honest, he fights me it’s the biggest payday of his career. I fight him, probably the biggest payday of my career because it’s something that’s never been done before. So make no mistake about that, yes it’s a payday for both guys. But at the end of the day, I’m courageous enough to step in there and do your sport because you’re not man enough to step over here and do this sport.”
Fans are waiting with bated breath when it comes to Kamaru Usman squaring off against Canelo Alvarez. We will have to wait and see whether the fight will happen in the future or not.
