AEW fans have voiced a lot of concern about their favorite wrestling brand’s potential future on the Discovery/WarnerMedia networks. After the companies merged, speculation ran wild that the new brass might not be interested in wrestling as much as the previous regime. For now, those fears appear to be premature.
In the television industry, advertisers are given presentations at a gathering known as an upfront. This is where networks and producers pitch their products to potential ad buyers. AEW will have a big presence at these upcoming meetings.
On the Wrestling Observer Forum, Dave Meltzer commented on the situation. Warner Bros. Discovery plans to push hard for AEW at the event. That could be a very good sign for Tony Khan’s company.
“AEW will be getting a big push at the upfronts.”
AEW is approaching the time to renegotiate its TV rights deal. There was a lot of uncertainty about what the newly-merged Warner-Discovery might decide to do. The big push towards advertisers is not a guarantee that they will stick with AEW, but it’s a great sign.
We will know soon enough just how confident the new media conglomerate is in their wrestling product. Tony Khan is hoping to see a huge increase in their TV contract. If the confidence Warner is showing in AEW at upfronts is any indication, TK should be very pleased.
