Former US President Donald Trump has been piling up huge amounts of fines since he was held in contempt by a New York judge last month. However, Trump has not been allowed to free himself of that legal trouble. Now the former POTUS has to pay up.
According to Associated Press, the NY judge said on Wednesday that he would lift the order of contempt against Trump as long as some conditions are met.
One of the conditions is that Trump’s team has to provide more information about a search for documents sought by the state Attorney General. Whereas, the second one is he has to pay a $110,000 fine.
For those who don’t know, Trump was held in contempt in late April by Judge Arthur Engoron and was imposed a daily fine of $10,000. This was because Trump had failed to comply with a subpoena issued by Attorney General Letitia James.
As long as Trump complies with the state attorney and agrees to pay a $110,000 fine, the former U.S President will free himself from a daily fine and the order of contempt against him will be lifted. The outlet also noted that Trump has May 20 to comply.
Trump’s Organization is under civil investigation by the state attorney which is why all the trouble for him. That being said, Trump’s attorneys have argued they are unable to locate the required documents. So we will have to see how long this goes on.
