Zac Efron Hopes High School Musical Reunion Happens

Zac Effron just confirmed that he’s up for a High School Musical reboot. Now fans of the Disney franchise can rejoice, but there’s nothing really to get too thrilled about just yet.

The 34-year-old actor said to E! News, “Of course,” when asked whether he’d participate in a reunion of the beloved Disney Channel films where he played heartthrob Troy Bolton.

Zac said, “I mean to have an opportunity in any form to go back and work with that team would be so amazing, My heart is still there. That would be incredible. I hope it happens.”

High School Musical was a huge success when it first came out on the Disney Channel in January 2006. It was followed by two sequel films 2007’s High School Musical 2 and 2008’s High School Musical 3: Senior Year. Zac. Since then Zac put his HSM days behind and began to star in a wide genre of movies, such as Baywatch, comedies like Neighbors, epics like The Greatest Showman, and thrillers like Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile.

If HSM reunion happens, it would also suggest that Zac would likely reunite with his ex Vanessa, who is 33, if she also takes part. The couple broke up in 2010 after they dated throughout the franchise, which made fans believe that a reunion is possible. They do say that time heals all wounds though. Also, yes the Disney Plus series exists, but OG fans know what they want, and they want Troy and Gabriella.

Zac met his ex Vanessa and the rest of the HSM cast members including director Kenny Ortega for a virtual reunion in April 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown. During the meeting, Zac introduced everyone but he didn’t sing “We’re All In This Together” with them due to network issues according to host Ryan Seacrest.
