Young Thug & Gunna Not Permitted To Bond Out Of Jail

The hip-hop world was shaken up in a big way when Young Thug, Gunna, and several other YSL affiliates were arrested under a Georgia RICO Act. Now the famous rappers must remain behind bars.

Young Thug was denied parole from an Atlanta jail on additional drug and illegal guns charges. It complicated efforts to free the rapper as he awaits trial in a larger case involving dozens of suspected gang members. In the bigger RICO case disclosed last week, the rapper has yet to have a bond hearing.

According to court records obtained by Billboard, a Fulton County judge refused bond for the new charges. They were added to Young Thug’s criminal record based on things discovered in his residence during his arrest on Monday. Possession of drugs and unspecified illicit weaponry, such as a machine gun, are among the new charges.

In the separate, more comprehensive case presented Monday, the chart-topping rapper, whose actual name is Jeffery Williams, has yet to have such a bond hearing. The rapper, along with scores of others, is accused of conspiring to break the state’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act by allegedly being a member of the violent street gang Young Slime Life.

It’s unclear how the ruling will affect Young Thug’s efforts to escape incarceration while awaiting trial. The new accusations are technically distinct from the RICO case, and it’s unclear if the judge hearing the newest counts will change his decision if Young Thug is given bond in the larger case. A request for response from his lawyer was not immediately returned.

Gunna was also denied bond, despite the fact that he is only charged with one count of conspiracy in the RICO case. Other accusations he’s considering include criminal street gang involvement, possession with the intent to distribute, and theft by receiving stolen property. Prosecutors are also expected to use the rapper’s lyrics as evidence.
