Ronald Dion DeSantis is an American politician and attorney serving as the 46th governor of Florida since 2019. The Florida lawmaker is also wrought with controversy as many accused him of being in the pockets of many people from Donald Trump to Vince McMahon. It seems mass media giant Disney recently edged out DeSantis in a popularity poll.
The Florida governor who vowed political war on the entertainment and theme park behemoth, is somewhat more popular than Disney. A survey commissioned by NBC News and conducted by Hart Research Associates/Public Opinion Strategies asked 1,000 adults a variety of questions.
The survey concluded how popular Disney is and how popular Gov. DeSantis is. DeSantis has spent recent months punishing one of the state’s flagship companies for opposing the state’s Parental Rights in Education law. Disney outperformed DeSantis in overall popularity, with 33% for Disney and 28% for DeSantis, according to the poll.
In terms of net favorability, both the entertainment and political titans were above water: Disney +3, DeSantis +2. Twenty percent of all respondents said DeSantis was someone they admired. The same number had a negative impression of him. The polarization was similar at Disney, with 15% at each extreme.
DeSantis’ national profile continues to rise. Only 7% of respondents were agnostic about Disney, while 31% had no view on him. DeSantis has railed against Disney’s entry into this cultural struggle, claiming that the company that has fueled most of Central Florida’s prosperity since the mid-20th century has the authority to speak out.
The spat between Disney and DeSantis comes as the business struggles to recover from the flu and expand its Disney+ streaming service. Last Monday, the entertainment behemoth reported earnings of $470 million, or 26 cents per share, for the three months ended April 2. This compares to $901 million, or 49 cents per share, in the same quarter last year. Disney made $1.08 per share in the most recent quarter after accounting for one-time factors.
This was quite a study and we can’t wait to see what other numbers might come out in the future. Keep checking back with Thirsty for more!
