Megan Thee Stallion and Cara Delevingne are both well-known artists. Megan recently made headlines for reposting a photo of herself and Doja Cat from the 2022 Billboard Music Awards with Cara Delevingne cropped out. There seems to be a reason for that.
Megan Thee Stallion shared a photo of herself and Doja Cat at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards on Instagram on Monday, with Cara Delevingne noticeably missing. The fan-altered photo from Sunday’s star-studded event in Las Vegas featured the “Captain Hook” rapper, who is 27, sitting behind the “Get Into It (Yuh)” singer, who is 26, but numerous internet users pointed out that the original included the model seated between the two artists.
According to Buzzfeed News, Delevingne, who was hazy in the picture, appeared to be Photoshopped out, while Megan and Doja were spliced together as though they were sitting next to one other. Though it has not been confirmed, it appears that the model-turned-actor was invited as Megan Thee Stallion‘s plus one. That doesn’t explain Cara’s unusual behavior that night.
The night began with a red carpet appearance by Cara, who was seen making funny faces and hovering behind Megan in the background of all her photos. She even leaped into the camera at one point, seemingly unprompted, to play with Megan’s dress train.
Despite the fact that Cara and Megan have crossed paths previously, with Cara even referring to Megan as her “friend” while presenting her with an award in 2020, it’s worth noting that the two ladies haven’t been known to be the closest of buds in the industry. This fact made the situation much more confusing as the night progressed.
Later that night, when Megan was announced as the Female Rap Artist category winner, viewers were intrigued because Cara appeared to be invading Megan’s personal space, sticking her tongue out near her face, and playing with the train of Meg’s dress as she went up to accept her award. Not long after that, another cringe-worthy video went viral when Megan and Doja Cat were conversing in their chairs. Then Cara practically stuck her head into the conversation.
Though Megan definitely did not make the edit, people quickly speculated that the repost was a subtle nod to the online commentary surrounding Cara’s odd behavior. Others, however, were quick to point out that in the unaltered photo, Cara appears a little blurry, prompting the argument that the modification was necessary simply because Cara wasn’t camera-ready.
Cara has yet to officially respond to the BBMAs’ most talked-about moments. However, she is the first to confess that everyone should “Embrace your strangeness,” according to her Instagram bio.
