John Cena has been making strides making the transition from wrestling to acting. His portrayal of the DC superhero Peacemaker is widely praised and he has other bookings coming up down the pipeline. Though it looked as if Cena would be out of the wrestling landscape for quite a bit, that may not be the case.
Speaking with Adam’s Apple, Cena teased a possible return in the ring for WWE. Though he didn’t go into full details, he did mention how this year marks the 20th anniversary of his WWE career.
I know in WWE years I turn 20 pretty soon, so that’s a pretty big thing. And from a pretty storied class of folks: Batista, Randy Orton, Brock [Lesnar] who kind of all turned 20 this year. I’m aware that that’s coming around the corner and who knows?
Cena’s last match in the company was against Roman Reigns at last year’s SummerSlam. While he seems focus on establishing his Hollywood career, Cena doesn’t want to fully end his wrestling career just yet.
There’s a lot of cool stuff going on and I don’t want to say no to any of these opportunities that are on my doorstep. So, I don’t know when I’ll be back but hopefully it’s soon. I’ve been gone for too long,
Cena debuted on SmackDown against Kurt Angle in 2002. Since then, he has established himself as one of the top main eventers in the company. He’s currently tied with Ric Flair in having the most WWE championships with 16. Only time will tell if Cena will surpass the record and get that 17th world title.
