Scooby-Doo has been a staple part of our childhood for most of us. Brainiac Velma, jock Fred, fashionista Daphne, hippie Shaggy, and Shaggy’s high-strung, talking Great Dane, Scooby-Doo, climb into their green van, the Mystery Machine, and hit the road in search of weird phenomena to solve. Velma Dinkley is now getting her own show and it looks like it’ll be a horrific one.
At the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront presentation recently, Mindy Kaling, the star and executive producer of Velma, revealed the first image from the new adult animated series. The star and producer also talked about making the beloved Scooby-Doo character South Asian in the new series.
Hopefully you noticed my Velma is South Asian. If people freak out about that, I don’t care.
Velma was frequently the brains behind the operation in the Scooby-Doo cartoons, and she’ll be at the forefront of mystery-solving in her new solo series. Velma came upon a young woman who had the top of her head hacked off in some way, so the crimes she’s investigating might not be kid-friendly.
Velma was introduced by HBO Max last year as an innovative and hilarious take that unmasks the deep and colorful backstory of one of America’s most popular mystery solvers. Take a look at the picture below. To get latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
